Wednesday, February 14, 4:00 – 5:00 pm, at Wolf Road and Central Avenue, Albany NY, 12205.”Ceasefire Now” “We Must Be Guardians of the Children!”
This year Grannies for Peace, Women Against War, and their Capital District allies will be gathering to highlight the grave and intergenerational damage done to women and children and their families as victims of war. Among the death toll of civilians in Gaza, reported by the World Health Organization on January 26th, seventy percent have been women and children. Specifically, 11,000 killed were children. There were also 65,000 civilians injured. These tolls have been rising with every day that passes.
We are heartbroken and outraged at the targeting of civilians. Via use of repeated displacement, siege, thirst, starvation and the ongoing destruction of healthcare systems; and of all residential and cultural infrastructures that make it possible to live a healthy and dignified life, to bring new children into the world, protect growing children, and ensure family survival
Our focus will be on the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and the mourning of all the civilian deaths, injuries and losses that have already taken place during the past four months, and one week.
Some of our banners and signs will include Ceasefire now! Be Guardians of Children, Support and Protect All Our Children, and Stop Supplying Weapons.
We’ll come together with love; to share our growing and persistent passion for an end to this massive killing. We call on our own government to stop its complicity and material support of what the IJC has deemed plausible genocide. After ordering Israel to immediately stop killing Palestinians, the court will be continuing its investigation.
Our vigil is part of the growing movement of hundreds of thousands of people all over the world calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the increasing violence in the West Bank. We’re blending together our collective energies to demand “Palestine Must Be Free.”
